What to Consider While Choosing the perfect Tournament for Your Baseball Team?

All Players want good fields. At the perfect game 14u tournaments, the players hope for an overall experience from these competitive events (they love the competition on-field events to win something or be recognized as the best in their age group).

What are the things that PLAYERS appreciate the most in a tournament? PARENTS? COACHES?

  • Parents appreciate shaded bleachers, screens, clean restrooms, trash can maintenance/cleanliness, some tournaments provide ice water in the dugouts, safety in the environment, awards their kids receive, and they come expecting that kids will play on well-manicured fields.

  • Coaches also really appreciate the top-quality fields, good umpires, communication about rules and regulations, quality and responsiveness to the tournament director, and free coach passes at the events.

What things do people OVERLOOK that make a difference in their experience?

New coaches pick venues they don't know anything about and are disappointed by facilities. Field maintenance is quite frankly taken for granted, but we make sure the fields, minor field maintenance after every game, drag twice a day, every area is set up new every day of the week. This makes a huge difference.

Communication: Coaches should feel very informed, from signing up for the tournament to showing up. Good directors communicate with the teams during the registration process, know where to check-in, prepare, rules, scores, and know what to do in bad weather, water availability, vendors, and advanced communication.

When baseball teams register at perfect game Staten Island 14u, we get their contact info, and then add them to an email list, schedules posted by this date, ask if they have a special request for pool play [advanced accommodations], personal message to them about our policy on sportsmanship, gentle reminder that they are responsible for their parents, the director holds coaches accountable. This has made an enormous difference in setting an expectation on behaviors.

What are the most valued factors in any tournament procedure?

Parents and coaches don't realize that cities, field crews, council members, differing city weather rules, protocol-trained volunteers/field crew, safety protocol, child protocol, finding missing kids, lockdown are all factors involved in being ready to pull off these huge events. In addition, these practice procedures have been implemented well in advance. These are all things that coaches should follow up on to feel self-confident that the competition will provide the top-tier experience they want.
