You have to configure your Netgear router for a cable internet connection with Netgear Genie.

Step 1: First of all, you have to unplug the router’s power cords. If there is a backup battery on your device then you have to remove it temporarily.

Step 2: Take a Cat5 ethernet cable for connecting the modem to the Netgear router’s internet port.

Step 3: Take another ethernet cable for connecting your operating system to the Netgear router’s LAN ports.

Step 4: If you have removed the plug-in battery then you have to insert that battery into your device. Once you set up everything properly, wait until all lights become stable.

Step 5: Next, you have to reconnect power to the Netgear router and wait for a few moments until the power light becomes green.

Step 6: Open the web browser of your choice and type the Netgear router’s IP address in the address bar. The Netgear router’s IP address will be either “192.168.0.1” or “192.168.1.1”. After entering the IP address, hit the Enter button to log into Netgear router settings.

Step 7: Next, enter default login credentials at the Netgear login page and check one thing i.e., login credentials are case sensitive so enter them properly.

Step 8: If due to any reason you are unable to log into Netgear router settings then perform a factory reset to reset the router to its default settings.

Step 9: After restoring the Netgear router to factory settings, tap on Advanced> Setup wizard.

Step 10: You are redirected to the next window where you will be asked if you want to detect the type of internet connection. On this page, press a click on the checkbox that is next to Yes and then hit the Next button.

Step 11: Now Netgear Setup Wizard will detect the internet connection type, so wait for a few minutes to finish the process.

Step 12: Once the setup has finished configuring the internet connection, the Congratulation page will display on the computer’s screen. At the congratulation webpage, you have to click on the option “Take me to the internet” to test internet connectivity.

Extra Checks

  1. If the router is not connecting to the internet then you have to disable software firewalls.
  2. Also, check for parental control applications as they may prevent accessing the Netgear router login page.
  3. There might be improper settings within your browser so immediately try a different browser.
