Ar. Bhuwan Chand Kapur has recently accomplished a project Dayal Bagh Ansal Cottage in Lucknow. It’s a resort comprising a group of luxury cottages where his expertise was vital to produce a juxtaposition of the two ends of social structure – rural look with latest amenities. Incensed with nature, blending various features of wood – both internally as well as externally, the huts represent the amalgamation of a saint’s ambient with all the modern facilities.
Challenges
Turning his client’s imagination into such a masterpiece with extensive use of wood, the design and layout of this resort successfully create an environment that fosters the needed close connect without missing nature. Located on Amar Shaheed Path & Lucknow-Sultanpur Highway, the structure exudes an energy that nurtures and rejuvenates the guests/inhabitants with renewed vigour.
Design & Architecture
The architect took extra care to establish the rural look using Sheesham wood while cladding the ceiling and interiors. He successfully integrated the modern household needs in a hut house, fulfilling the design objectivity.
The wood, when used extensively in the building, brings the rural touch along with a look resembling traditional old-fashioned dwelling sporting a saintly meditative feel. But the option to extensively use wood isn’t economical, especially with respect to the sanctioned budget. Considering the factors like costs and availability, the team went for the cheap and best option - Sheesham wood, used in the ceiling for a raft hut finish in rustic surface feel. Complete furniture – each & every including bed, desk and wardrobe – have been made with Sheesham wood. To give a more rural and warm feeling, the hut got painted in terracotta mixed with hay to produce a rural textured finish.
