Are Hairballs In Cats Good

Hairballs form when a cat consumes loose hair, dust, and dirt while self-grooming. Cats usually eliminate ingested hair via the digestive process. However, when hair irritates the stomach, cats vomit it generally, coated with saliva, stomach bile, and partly digested food. As such, cat hairballs look rather extended.

Are cat hairballs healthy? It is easy to conclude that throwing up anything foreign to the body is beneficial. All cats groom themselves, and the hair they may inadvertently consume will generally pass through into their stools. There may be an issue when hair accumulates and does not flow through. There are reports of cats acquiring lots of hair that become gastrointestinal blockages and need surgical removal.

However, remember that it is possible for vomiting, coughing, and other related behaviors to be associated with severe medical issues such as asthma, heartworm disease, inflammatory bowel condition, cancer, various types of allergies, and others.

If your cat frequently coughs up hairballs, you should have your pet checked by your veterinarian Raleigh, NC. Click here.
