"This (creating new spectators) is something that has worked well when signing contracts with players like Shunsuke Nakamura in the past and we are confident that Scottish football will benefit from this signing again. Hard economic times for Scottish football, we are happy to commit and bring Ki to Scotland."

Nakamura arrived in Scotland in 2005 and Indian Matka spent four years there. The Japanese creator of the game was a great success with both the fans and the coach. Before leaving Spain in the summer of 2009, he certainly helped make Celtic visible in Japan and Asia, but Ki warned fans that he was not a 'Naka Mark II' but a versatile midfielder for Liverpool and England. "People would expect me to be the new Nakamura, but I'm not. He's a great player and technically very good, but that's not the style I play. I'm younger, faster and stronger. In South Korea, they compare me to Steven Gerrard's that I base my game on that.

"But Gerrard is one of the best and most respected midfielders in the world. I'm not, but I want to be."
