Few Features You Should Keep in Mind While Purchasing VPN

A VPN service is an online privacy tool that masks your original IP address with another and encrypts all of your network traffic, so that no one can see what you do online. This helps to protect your identity and data from hackers, internet service providers (ISPs), and even the government.

There are a large number of VPN services vying for your attention, which can make it difficult to know which one to sign up for. While the websites of VPN providers are useful up to a point in terms of highlighting important features (and indeed limitations), sometimes more crucial info is buried deep in the site.

So to avoid any danger of you being trapped by a VPN’s fancy website, we’ve put together this article which looks at the truly important features to bear in mind when picking the right VPN service for you.

 A lot of server Locations:

When you use a VPN, the data that you want to send and receive is encrypted inside a tunnel created between your device and the VPN’s web server. This means that the data you’re sending is protected against hacking or interception. The IP address of the web server (not your true IP) is what’s visible to others; this leads to one advantage of using a VPN, namely that you can appear to be in a different geographic location than you are actually located in.

This can have many uses, such as being able to access streaming services or shopping sites specific to a certain country, bypassing what’s known as geo-blocking.

The more servers available in each location, the better (as they’re less likely to be overloaded, so you’ll get better performance levels).

Should have Mobile App:

It’s all very well your VPN offering client software for your Windows PC, but the true value is in its mobile support. Why? Because you’re more likely to be using public Wi-Fi when you’re out and about, and that’s when you need a VPN to keep your device safe.

Therefore, when choosing a VPN, make sure that it supports the platforms for the mobile devices that you use. Most providers have apps for at least Android and iOS, but check out the setup instructions in the Support pages, too.

Kill Switch:

While using a VPN is a great way to keep your information safe while you are online, it’s not 100% foolproof. Many VPN services are susceptible to IP leaks, which expose your true IP address in the event of an IP leak. This can happen when you’re connecting to the VPN service and it gets overloaded.

The solution is a kill switch, which monitors for the VPN connection failing, and then prevents data from being transmitted. In short, as the name suggests, it kills the connection so that unencrypted data isn’t transmitted over the internet.

Not all VPN services have integrated kill switches, but some do. Look for an integrated VPN kill switch with the service and be sure to turn on in the app’s settings; many are disabled by default.

No-Usage-Logs Policy:

When you’re looking for a VPN service, one of the considerations you’ll want to keep in mind is the logging policy of the VPN.

If you want to make sure that your browsing activity is kept as private as possible, and that it’s not held onto by third parties, then you want to look for a VPN with a “no log” policy.

However, be sure to read through the fine print! Some VPNs claim that they have no log policies, but then they will still hold some information - such as session logs, for example. If privacy is important to you, you need to carefully read through the terms and conditions of each VPN and make sure there aren’t any catches.

This can be a time-consuming process. Instead of going through all this hassle yourself, check out our extensive collection of VPN reviews.

Realistic Price:

A low price point is a must for any quality VPN. There is a very wide range of prices and plans to choose from, but almost always, you’ll get the best deal if you sign up for at least a year’s worth of service. You can find some truly bargain-basement deals with some providers.

If you’re looking for an especially low price, however, bear in mind that the basic plans won’t have the full range of features. That might mean you miss out on something good (like a proprietary protocol for avoiding being detected as a VPN connection so you don’t get blocked or throttled).

So these are the few features of VPN that you should keep in mind while selecting a VPN for you. As per our experience, Smarters VPN is the best VPN service provider which consists of all above features and much more. You can try the 7 day free trial.
