The Complete Guide To Masking Tapes

Masking tape is a type of adhesive tape that is used to temporarily conceal surfaces that are not intended for finishing. Masking tapes shield areas from painting, soldering, blasting, spraying, coating, plating, and polishing while these procedures are performed on nearby surfaces. The composition of masking tape varies according to the activity for which it is intended.

Masking tape was originally used to cover up auto parts that did not require painting. Today, this is still the most common application; however, because masking tape ensures clean and sharp edges and prevents paint from dripping, it is also used for all types of professional and DIY painting jobs. PPM has a specific selection of masking tapes based on the field of application.

Applying masking tape in a straight line is simple, but it must be done correctly and neatly. Start by sticking the tape in one corner and working your way outwards, unravelling the tape from the roll as you go and making sure each section is securely stuck down before moving on. If you want a more precise finish, use a ruler or other edge measuring tool to help you line up the tape correctly.
