6 Anime Series With Incredibly Intelligent Main Characters

Creating a strong character is easy. Give that bad boy a smack and put your budget into visual effects – bam! However, creating a smart anime character requires a bit more finesse and, well, thought. While every anime main character can be said to possess moderate intelligence to get ahead, these anime main characters have brains that go above and beyond. Read more information about this article.

Death Note

You know me, I like to start with the most obvious ones first to get them out of the way. Death Note has an enduring legacy for being the ultimate cat-and-mouse anime game between a clever killer and an equally clever detective. Mystery series often call for intelligent leads, but Death Note, with its many schemes, really captivated everyone.

Code Geass

In a similar vein to Death Note, you don't have so much of a mystery show, but more of a political thriller of rebellion. The main character has the benefit of a top-notch education, a naturally intelligent mind, and a power that can force anyone to do what he says. With all that, he rocks an empire in revenge for him.

Monster

Monster is a game of cat and mouse, but it deals not so much with various schemes between the two players, but rather focuses on heavy psychological and philosophical questions. The plot itself is based on a popular philosophical question that is twisted to a strange result. Unfortunately, as a little slow, it may not be for everyone.

One Outs

I like to call One Outs the "Death Note of sports anime", and you can see why when you watch it. It is a lot of internal dialogue and everything comes with the same intensity that is marked until eleven. It is a kind of gambling anime, which may indicate that it requires luck, but strategy and skill are definitely needed in this particular sport.

log horizon

This is the smart choice when it comes to the whole "stuck in a game/isekai" genre. The main character is still legendarily strong, but he is actually famous for being a great strategist. As such, every action he does involves some thought.

Overlord

Unlike Log Horizon, where the main character stuck in the game is known to be smart, Overlord doesn't advertise it that way. Ainz's intelligence is more of a "show, don't tell" kind of thing, but it's still almost as obvious right off the bat. He is particularly adept at manipulating everyone from his allies to his enemies.
