2023 Toyota RAV4 Redesign Canada

The 2023 Toyota RAV4 midsize SUV could get another update later this year - the introduction of a number of long-awaited technology upgrades, including a digital instrument display - according to a new foreign report.

According to the Japanese website Creative Trend, Toyota dealers in Japan have been briefed about the facelifted RAV4 due in October 2022 - less than a year after the previous 2022 model year (MY22) update which was launched in Japan in December 2021 or in Australia in recent weeks.

While the 2022 update focused on minor exterior changes and standard specification changes, the 2023 Model Year Update (MY23) will focus on technology updates - led by the introduction of a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster for three of the four available options ( except for special editions).

The new widescreen display will be standard on the G, G "Z Package" and Adventure classes, replacing the existing 7.0-inch display currently standard on the XSE, Cruiser and Edge trims in Australia.

The 4.2-inch instrument cluster display (between analog dials) found on the entry-level RAV4 X in Japan - or seen on the GX and GXL in Australia - will be replaced by the aforementioned 7.0-inch screen.

Along with the digital instrument cluster, Creative Trend claims the 2023 RAV4 will get a new "display audio system...with connected navigation," which the website says refers to Toyota's next-generation infotainment system that debuted in the luxury SUV. Lexus NX in Australia, replacing much-criticized software in today's RAV4.

Creative Trend suggests that the new RAV4 infotainment system will unlock the larger 10.5-inch screen first seen in Japan's Toyota Noah and Voxy, though this has yet to be confirmed and it's unclear if the 10.5-inch screen will replace or complement existing ones. 8.0 inch and 9.0 inch screens.

Either way, the system is likely to offer satellite navigation, in-car Wi-Fi connectivity, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Other new features with the 2023 Toyota RAV4 update are said to include an in-cabin HDMI port, an upgraded Autonomous Emergency Braking System with cross-traffic and motorcycle support, an improved adaptive cruise control feature, and a system that stops the vehicle if the driver becomes incapacitated.

A hybrid variant will also be added to the Japanese market Adventure variant - effectively an Edge model, with all-terrain tires and other changes - though this model is not currently available in Australia.

No changes are listed for the RAV4 engine lineup, assuming the current model's naturally aspirated 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, 2.5-litre petrol engine, and best-selling 2.5-litre hybrid system remain unchanged.

It remains to be seen how this will affect prices, although the new technology is likely to push prices up. The 2022 RAV4 lineup costs between $34,300 and $52,320 plus road expenses.

Creative Trend reports that Japanese pricing for the 2023 Toyota RAV4 refresh will be disclosed between August and September 2022 - with order books open at the same time - ahead of first deliveries in Toyota's home market in October.

Toyota Australia has yet to announce a local launch date or confirm an update at all.
