Selecting Splashbacks for a Black and White Kitchen

The traditional black and white colour scheme for a kitchen has been a design classic for generations. Black and white kitchens can be anything you want them to be - an exercise in modern minimalism, a bold artistic statement or just about anything else you can think of.

Best of all, a black and white kitchen can often serve as the ultimate blank canvas upon which to build your own unique space, bursting with character and personality. A black and white theme can be a great starting point for the design of a kitchen, after which a wide variety of additional accents and elements can be introduced.

High-quality glass splashbacks can be particularly at home in the black and white kitchen. Their sleek, glossy and shiny surface pairs perfectly with the surrounding colour scheme, bringing a touch of elegance and sophistication into the space. Not to mention, the practicality that comes with robust protection for the surface beneath.

But in terms of colours, which glass splashbacks work best in black and white kitchens? With such an extensive range of options to choose from, what splashback colours are easier to integrate into a black and white kitchen than any others?

As with most things, much of it comes down to personal preference alone. If you are happy with the result, there is really no such thing as a ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ choice.

Even so, there are some colours and styles that never fail to look fantastic in a black and white kitchen, including the following:

Black

A jet-black splashback can be just the thing to bring a hint of drama into a predominantly white kitchen. Bursts of black in kitchens decorated mainly in white can really bring the space together, without becoming obtrusive or making the room dark. They are eye-catching enough to draw attention and create a point of focus, but at the same time discreet enough to blend in perfectly with their surroundings.

White

Speaking of which, a pure white splashback always represents the ultimate in understated sophistication. White splashbacks fitted in black and white kitchens are deliberately subtle - practically vanishing when surrounded by a predominantly white backdrop. Even so, their glossy surface reflects light around the kitchen in a way that the entire room feels more spacious and airy.

Charcoal

If you are looking to bring in a colour that deviates from the black and white theme, charcoal is a great choice. A charcoal-coloured glass splashback will stand out just enough to catch the eye, without becoming intrusive. Charcoal splashbacks with a matte finish can be just as visually impressive as their glossy counterparts, and are great for most types of black and white kitchens.

Mirror or Sparkle

You could always consider adding a seriously eye-catching feature to your kitchen with a mirror splashback, or a splashback with a sparkle effect. From black glitter to silver mirror to a matte metallic effect, there is a limitless range of options to consider. Keep things simple, or bring your kitchen to life with something more outspoken - the choice is yours!
