Setting up Your Desk

Your overall comfort and posture can be affected by the setup of your desk. This makes it very important to make you’re your body is in a correct position during the duration of when you are working.  


Things like proper desk height is vital in order to make sure you are comfortable and can avoid injury. If you are using a desk that is too short for you, this can result in something called Forward Head Posture, along with Rounded Shoulders, and Hunching over. When this happens, over time, this will give you neck, upper back, and lower back pain. On the other hand, if you have a desk that is too high, this can result in elevation of your shoulders. This will then cause stiffness and pain in your neck and shoulders. To avoid these completely avoidable issues, make sure to have your desk at a height that is in line with your elbows when you are sitting. They should be almost in line with the surface of the desk.  


Other considerations are suggested as bellow: 

  • Arrange items used commonly on your dominant side, to avoid unnecessary repositioning (from reaching over repeatedly) during work. 
  • Make sure the source of light in the room is towards your dominant side. This is important because it prevents the shadow from blocking your view.
