What Is National Pain Week?

Chronic pain is quite common in an average person’s life. However, there are many ways to manage chronic pain.

One of the most effective ways to deal with your pain is by engaging in community-based activities like National Pain Week.

In this article, we will talk about why National Pain Week is worth your time. Read on!

Experiencing chronic pain

Most of us will have to deal with chronic pain at some point in our lives. It may be felt following a surgery or it may also be a result of a short-term health condition. It may last only a short period of time before the body heals and the pain subsides.

Chronic pain is one of Australia's and the world's fastest-growing medical issues. According to Chronic Pain Australia, the following are some facts about chronic pain:

  • chronic pain affects one out of every five Australians
  • this includes one out of every three persons over the age of 65
  • one out of every five doctor appointments involves a patient experiencing chronic pain.

A range of healthcare practitioners can help with chronic pain conditions, including chiropractors, physiotherapists, massage therapists, Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners, and more.

According to Dr. Matthew Alch (Chiropractor) from Sydney Spinal Care, “chiropractors use a range of different treatments and techniques to address your health concerns, which may include: mobilisation, where movement is gently increased on a joint to facilitate its range of motion, exercises and stretches, heat or ice therapy, soft tissue techniques such as massage, and general lifestyle advice.”

National Pain Week

People who experience chronic pain may often feel alone and isolated as a result of this condition. However, there are ways to address and manage your chronic pain. It is important to know that you are not alone!

One of the ways to address this condition is to take part in an event called “National Pain Week,” which is organised by Chronic Pain Australia. It is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation that promotes health. They were founded in 2001 as a result of firsthand experience with chronic pain.

Chronic Pain Australia believes that no Australian should have to deal with pain on their own. It would be wrong to be denied access to services and information that can help in the management of chronic pain.

National Pain Week's purpose is to remind friends, family, and healthcare professionals that human connection is vital in possibly alleviating the social isolation caused by chronic pain.

Chronic Pain Australia hopes that through holding the event, people and communities will begin to connect with their bodies in a positive way. The event encourages people to get assistance and guidance from others rather than ignoring it and suffering alone in silence.

Their team is currently planning for the event this year and any leads from those who want to take part or contribute to make this year's event even more memorable are more than welcome.

Before we go...

Many of us who have chronic pain describe it as something that affects a lot of aspects in our lives. However, some patients do acupuncture or chiropractic to manage the pain.

This, combined with finding a community of individuals who share your experience, may help you regain control of your own body. You may be able to return to significant, rewarding, and pleasant pursuits in life once you’ve learned to manage the pain!
