Different Methods For Business Valuation

Business valuation is the process that helps you to determine the economic value of your whole business. It can determine the fair value of a business for so many reasons. From intellectual property tax planning to establish partner ownership, business valuation has a lot to offer.

Organizations look up to professional business valuation services for an objective estimate for their business. Here, we have mentioned some of the possible ways that a business can be followed and what are the methods behind it. Read along!

Times Revenue Method

Under this method, a list of revenues (collected over time) is applied to a multiplier, depending on the industry type or economic environment. Such as in the case of a tech company, where it may be valued at 3.5x revenue, or a service firm may be valued at 1x revenue.

Market Capitalisation

It is so far the simplest method for business valuation. To calculate it, the total number of shares outstanding is multiplied by the company's shares. For example, as in the case of Microsoft, as of January 3, 2018-

Total number of shares outstanding = 7.715billion

Traded at =$85.35

The company could be valued at= $86.35 * 7.175 billion. That sums up to a total of $666.19 billion.

Discounted Cash Flow Method

The discounted cash flow or DCF method is somewhat similar to the earnings multiplier, but it is based on future projections of cash flows. The noteworthy difference between both the methods of discounted cash flow and the profit multiplier is that DCF considers inflation to calculate the present value.

Liquidation Value

The net cash that a business will receive if its assets were liquidated and liabilities were paid till this date is known as liquidation value.

However, business valuation services don't generally use these methods today. Various other methods that have been more worthy than it includes replacement value, breakup value, asset-based valuation, etc.

The Bottom Line

Business value services work round the clock to fulfill every need of a business and devise ways to expand it to achieve great heights. Almost every business firm and organizations rely on such services to generate high revenues.
