All you need to know about Intel EVO Laptops in 2022!

Living in the 21st century, we are witnessing the best of tech, and more and more companies are revealing brand-new categories of high-end laptops. Intel recently introduced an Evo Platform, which are premium laptops designed to keep up with today’s fast-paced lifestyle. In addition to great performance, these laptops are incredibly lightweight and offer excellent battery life. Supportable on other devices? They must pass Intel’s rigorous testing procedures to be considered for selection. So, let’s get started to explore some more details on EVO!

All about Intel Evo?

Those familiar with Intel's other initiatives to accelerate laptop innovation under an initiative called "Project Athena" would better understand that Evo is essentially second gen that encompasses specifications and "Key Experience Indicators" set out by Athena. It is typically intended to allow laptop users to achieve full potential without being held back by slow responsiveness, iffy performance, and unreliable battery. With Intel's 12th Gen Core mobile CPUs comes the third generation of Evo. It is packed and complete and has several late & vital features, and KEIs are required to receive the Evo badge.

An introduction to Intel Evo from 2020

Intel Evo is the 2nd edition of Project Athena and demands the laptop to be consistent and have relatively a lengthy battery life and consistent performance. Athena's Laptop required fast charging and snappy system responsiveness for things like an instant wake. Additional features like optional Gigabit LTE, Wi-Fi 6, and far-field voice recognition were also listed.

The second-generation EVO brought a new round of required KEIs and features. To attain the original Evo badge, a laptop must have an 11th Gen Core i7 or Intel Core i5 CPU with Intel Xe integrated graphics. With one of the supported CPUs, devices had to hit these KEI targets as a minimum then:

·        Wake from sleep within one second.

·        Consistent responsiveness on battery.

·        Nine or exceeding hours of real-world battery life on laptops with HD display.

Intel didn't stop with its four-second-gen Evo KEIs. Laptops with Evo brand required Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, Thunderbolt 4 ports, and USB-C charging. This was a welcome change that cut down on the various barrel and plug charging adapters that older models required. There are numerous other highlights laid out by Intel, including a minimum of 8GB dual-channel RAM and 256GB PCIe NVMe SSD. Moreover, biometric login abilities (IR camera, fingerprint reader, Bluetooth proximity sensor) and optional Gigabit LTE connectivity were also options for newer models.

What's new with Intel Evo's third edition?

Intel released a new version of its Evo line of laptops. The third edition includes 12th Gen Intel Core mobile CPUs and one new KEI target added to the original list. Here's a look at some key specs required for a laptop to receive the third-edition Evo badge.

·        Intel Wi-Fi 6E (Gig+) support as an option based on market availability

·        12th Gen Intel SoC

·        Intel Connectivity Performance Suite (only for Windows)

·        Intel Visual Sensing technology

·        Dynamic background noise suppression

·        FHD camera or Intel IPU6/MIPI camera

The new Intel Kei Kecked Intelligent Collaboration laptop promises high-quality video conferencing. It starts with an Intel EVO laptop running various collaboration applications in the background (and foreground) without a hit to responsiveness or battery life. It then combines dynamic background noise reduction with AI acceleration, Wi-Fi 6E (Gig+) speed, and Intel Connectivity Performance Suite to optimize your wireless network while prioritizing critical communication traffic.

Some of the 12th Gen Intel H-series systems are included in the Evo platform for the first time. These laptops must meet every standard of Intel Evo requirements stated above. Here are some of the additional requirements stated by Intel.

·        It is vital to have a 12th Gen Intel Core H-series CPU (35W to 45W TDP)

·        It must have Intel Arc Discrete GPU with Intel Deep Link

·        It must have a "creator-oriented" display ranging from 15”-16” inches in size

Some more Tips to Consider:

·        Being an Intel Evo laptop is a badge of honour for many, and with good reason – it has extremely strict entry requirements. Starters must know that you should choose a computer that is powered by Intel’s latest 12th-gen Alder Lake processors. More specifically, you can look for a high-end H-Series that can deliver you both; excellent performance and power efficiency directly benefit battery life.

·        While choosing a laptop, check for battery life! The laptop must offer at least nine hours of usage on a single charge. However, this applies to Full HD devices, so this specification varies on 1440p resolutions and higher.

·        Intel has not specified any screen resolution, although it’s implausible that a premium laptop must come with a solution less than Full HD.

·        Irrespective of the power requirements, choose supportable devices that are incredibly lightweight. Many current devices come under 1.5kg, with many even more significantly lighter. Intel aims for Evo devices to be used while travelling or away from home.

·        Mentioning again as it is important, laptops must be able to wake from sleep in less than a second. This is the best combination to possess if they have Thunderbolt 4 support for fast data transfer and built-in Wi-Fi 6E.

As per the latest updates from 2022, there is a new feature called ‘Intelligent Collaboration’. To integrate this feature, you need great devices for multitasking and work smoothly with the most popular collaboration apps, such as Zoom, Microsoft Office, and Slack.

Ending Note:

Overall, there are a lot of features and specifications to keep track of, and there is no doubt that Intel is putting them all under one Evo badge. If you're shopping for the best Ultrabook and value what Intel encompasses, it's far better to look for Evo than to delve into spec sheets.
