What is the Concept Behind Laser 3d Printers?

Laser 3d printers are typical 3d printers that use lasers in the printing process. There are various ways in which lasers can be used in 3d printing. For example, they can be used to cut different geometric shapes out, make markings and texturize the surface of the materials. In this article, our focus will be on the use of lasers for engraving. But, like many others, you may also wonder how this is possible.

Lasers are an acronym for light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation. Like many other things, lasers come in various colors, states of matter, and the magnitude of power in each. They are divided into four classes, class one to class 4, the first class being the least potent and the fourth class being the most potent laser. For 3d printed lasers, mostly class 4 lasers are used. This is attributed to the fact that they are strong enough to make markings on many materials. The concept behind lasers in engraving is quite straightforward. The extra electric current in laser light is what is absorbed into different materials and makes markings on them.

 Why then are they peoples-favorite?

Since its inception in the 1960s, lasers have found many applications and have solved many problems for modern-day humans. It has found various applications in the field of business. Lasers are used to mark, engrave and cut through different materials, from wood, leather, plastic, paper, and non-transparent acrylic. They are preferred to other engraving methods because of their ability to focus on detail without causing damage to other parts of the object you are engraving. You can now easily make products and sell them online, thanks to laser engraving. For instance, many have been able to create custom keychains, coasters, and personalized frames. People are always looking for a personal touch, so for this type of business, demand is high.

What are the potential risks of using lasers?

As a rule of thumb, lasers can cause damage when it comes into contact with the sin. But not all lasers are potentially harmful. As seen above, there are 4 classes of lasers. Only the ones that belong to classes 3 and 4 will cause potential damage to the body. Class 3 lasers will cause damage to the eyes, while class 4 lasers can cause severe burns. To mitigate this, some 3d printers have room for an enclosure which reduces the intensity from class 4 down to class one, which is harmless.
