About Vijay Vilas Palace

From touring locales that served as the backdrop for enduring Bollywood films to performing live music in front of guests, my visit to Vijay Vilas will always be memorable. Maharao Vijay Singh constructed the palace in 1929. It is an eclectic fusion of architectural forms, offers a panoramic view of the sea, and is a favored filming location in Hindi.

The palace was constructed as a summer retreat under Maharao Shri Khengarji III, the Maharao of Kutch. Yuvraj Shri Vijayaraji, the son of Maharao Shri Khengarji III, is honored by having the palace named in his honor. This palace's construction started in 1920 and was finished in 1929.

The palace is surrounded by beautifully designed gardens with marble fountains, water channels, and stone carvings of murals, Jalis, Jharokas, Chhatris, and many other creative stone carvings. There is also colored glass work on the windows and entrance panels. The Vijayaraji Chhatri, or royal umbrella, which belonged to the prince who adored this palace and died in 1948, is also located on the grounds.

I'm still curious as to how the Mistris of Kutch, the Suthars, the local Kutchi artisan community, and architects and artisans from places like Jaipur, Rajasthan, Bengal, and Saurashtra got together to build such a magnificent castle.

The renowned dinner scene from the movie, as well as the song "Chand Chupa baadal mein" from Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam," were both filmed in Vijay Vilas Palace. At Vijay Vilas Palace, the song "Saree ke fall sa" from "R....Rajkumar" was also performed. Now, I have no doubt that you'll search for them on YouTube. Consider organizing a trip here. Enjoy!
