Weekend Trip to Lansdowne

Lansdowne, just the word conjures up images of a beautiful small town filled with tranquillity and quiet.

Well!!! After much contemplation, I finally got the opportunity to visit this little hill station in Uttarakhand's Kotdwara district in April '12. (Overdue Post). Lansdowne was named after the then-Viceroy of India, Lord Lansdowne, and was established by the British to serve as a recruit training camp for the Garhwal Rifles.

A Landsdowne Travel Package may be a waste of time and money for individuals seeking for a lot of activity and amusement park-style entertainment. In terms of usual entertainment, such as stores, malls, a variety of tourist alternatives, and excellent eating, there isn't much to do here. What you miss in this regard is more than compensated for by the beautiful excursions and walks that can be taken over the various routes winding around the mountains. When booking a Lansdowne Tour Package, ask your hotel or tour operator to include a guide.

Make an effort to get up early one morning and go for a stroll to enjoy the magnificent natural surroundings and have the local flora and animals pointed out to you. Bird viewing is popular here, since hundreds of rare and exotic bird species may be seen in and around Lansdowne's major woods.

There are a few places worth seeing for travellers who want to add some sightseeing in their Lansdowne Holiday Packages.

-Garhwal Rifles Regimental War Memorial: Lansdowne is home to the Regimental Centre of the Indian army's elite Garhwal Rifles unit. The war memorial on the Parade Ground honours all of the courageous soldiers of this regiment who have given their lives in numerous wars from pre-independence days to the present. It is appropriate for all travellers to pay their respects to the martyrs here.

-Tip-in-top View Point: Also known as Tiffin Top View Point, this is one of India's most stunning viewpoints. On a clear day, you can see the snow-covered Himalayan peaks and sections of Tibet. It is advised that you come during sunrise on your Landsdowne Travel Package to obtain the most amazing and unforgettable sights of your life.

-Regional Museum: This is a hall and museum that contains antiques and relics from the elite Garhwal Rifles Regiment. It is named after Darban Singh Negi, a regimental soldier who distinguished himself in duty.
