The engineering assessment authority of Australia, Engineers Australia introduced the National Engineering Register in the year of 2015. It is a comprehensive directory and a way to recognize those engineers who fulfill high standards of skill, qualification and professionalism that are expected in the engineering industry. It provides a national framework of registration for professional engineers, engineering technologists and engineering associates all over the public and private sectors.

NER is a publicly-searchable database, and it gives individuals and businesses access to a qualified pool of engineers, endorsed by Australia’s engineering peak body.

How to join NER:

As an engineer, getting and displaying the NER credential is a way to show your engineering skills, talent and experience to prospective employees and clients.

You are not required to be an Engineers Australia member to apply for a NER Australia credential.

For a NER credential, you have to satisfy the following criteria:

·       Have an Engineers Australia accredited engineering qualification or a positive Engineers Australia migration skills assessment or membership competency assessment.

·       Have five or more years of related full-time equivalent engineering work experience in the last 10 years, having a minimum of 4 years of full-time equivalent post-graduate experience.

·       Satisfy all the competencies for independent practice in the occupational category you chose.

Required documents:

If you are a member, then the following documents you need the following documents scanned and ready to upload:

·       An expanded resume detailing the projects you have been responsible for and your major attainments. It must include problems, situations and opportunities you have had. The expert skills or knowledge you applied and the outcomes you had. Besides that, include any actions you took to sort out problems. Highlight where you have shown innovation and creativity.

·       Proof of your CPD, which stands for continuing professional development.

If you are not a member of EA, you are still qualified to apply for the NER Engineers Australia credential. You need the following documents scanned and ready to upload:

·       An expanded resume that details the projects you have been responsible for and your major attainments. It must include problems, situations and opportunities you have faced. The expert skills or knowledge you applied and the results you had. Besides that, include any actions tool to deal with problems. Highlight the areas in which you have shown innovation and creativity.

·       Colour-scanned copy of your photo identification. A passport or driving licence.

·       Evidence of your accredited qualifications like a testamur or transcripts from an EA-accredited qualification. Alternatively, you can use an EA membership competency or migration skills assessment outcome letter.

·       Evidence of your continuing professional development (CPD).
