Microfibrillated Cellulose Is Expected To Replace Aluminum In Packaging Applications

The utilization of additional raw materials is decreasing as the product is increasingly used in diverse paper applications. Microfibrillated Cellulose replaces traditional filler materials. Because of its superior barrier qualities, microfibrillated cellulose is expected to replace aluminum in packaging applications. Nanostructured cellulose is created by chemically or mechanically treating wood pulp or plant cellulose. Nanocellulose is a pseudo-plastic biopolymer with outstanding thermal, mechanical, and structural capabilities. Nanocellulose is a high aspect ratio, low density new-generation material.Mechanical treatment with or without enzymatic or chemical pre-treatment results in microfibrillated cellulose

Cellulose is a linear biopolymer that is the most abundant natural polymer on the planet. It is the major element of plant cell walls and can be naturally derived from grasses, wood, seed fibers, algae, fungus, and other sources. Microfibrillated Cellulose is made up of nanosized cellulose fibrils. After mechanical treatments and bacterial or chemical alterations of cellulose pulp, nanocellulose is created. Nanocellulose in its purified form is non-toxic and suitable for use in a variety of applications, including the food industry, packaging, paper and paperboard, medical and hygiene products, optical sensors, paints, biomedicines, and cosmetics.
