Ashwin Mehta is a Mumbai High Court and Supreme Court lawyer. He earned a law degree in his mid-50s and is now a busy lawyer, appearing before the Mumbai High Court and the Supreme Court. He battled various court proceedings alone to clear his brother's identity and paid approximately Rs 1,700 crores to banks. He is well-known as Harshad Mehta's brother. He was born in the Gujarat district of Rajkot, in the town of Paneli Moti. Shantilal Mehta, his father, owned a textile company, and his mother was a housewife. His studies were completed at Holy Cross Byron Bazar. His older brother, Harshad Mehta, attracted attention for his "1992 security fraud." In this case, he was also sentenced to time served. Harshad Mehta's swindle in 1992 cost Ashwin Mehta and his sister-in-law Jyoti Mehta a large sum of money.
He was Harshad's appointed legal representative as well as a stockbroker. In 2018, a special court found Ashwin Mehta not guilty of defrauding the State Bank of India. Harshad Mehta's case was dropped shortly after his death in 2001, a decade earlier.
