Steps For Making A Pirate Costume From The Things You Already Have

Pirate costumes are an old classic when it comes to Halloween costumes. Pirate outfits are easy to find online and in stores and you can even put them together at home. If you need a costume for Halloween in a pinch then putting together your costume is the best option. You do not need sewing skills to make your costume at home. All you need is a little high seas fashion information.

Step 1

Get a standard button-up shirt. A dress or blouse works fine. Shirts with puffy sleeves or ruffles work great. Get some tea and stain the shirt. Make it look dirtier and more worn. To do this, you should put tea bags in hot water and soak the white shirt. Let it rest in the water for a few hours and ring the shirt out. Let it dry.

Step 2

In the second step, you should look for a black skirt or black trousers. You should ensure they have a semi-loose fit. Tie a bandanna or a couple of scarves around the waist of your skirt or the legs of your pants.

Step 3

In the third step, find a pair of black boots. Your boots should be tall. They should also look worn out.

Step 4

Use accessories to layer your outfit. A solid or striped vest can go over the shirt. Tie a large black belt around your waist. Carefully pull the shirt out above the belt and ensure it looks puffy. When buying costumes online or making your own costume, remember pirates stole a lot of jewels and money so no costume is complete without jewellery. You should find faux gold medallions, pocket watches or rings and store them in your jewellery box.

Step 5

Wear a black eye patch over one eye. A piece of black cloth secured safely with elastic can work great if you do not have an eye patch. Glue faux gemstones and beads on it if you like. Most movies and books depict pirates with an eye patch.

Wear a bandana or scarf on your head. You can tuck loose ends under if they are short or you could let them hang.

Step 6

Get a plastic sword or curve one from wood. To make a sword, cut the sword and handle into a piece out of wood or cardboard. Paint the handle of the sword black or brown and the blade gold or silver.

Make a see-through eye patch

It is good to be a pirate but without an eye patch, your costume will not be complete to most people. To complete your pirate costumes, make an eye patch and make it see-through to ensure you enjoy your day without being blindfolded. A see-through eye patch will give you the best experience. Draw out two eye patch shapes on your cud and cut them out. Cut a small patch of repair mesh larger than the patch hole and paint it black. Stick it over the hole on the card and stick the other piece of card over the top of the first. Snip your rubber band to ensure it doesn’t loop. Paint it black. Punch a hole in the top corners of your eye patch and poke an end of the rubber band in the holes and tie a knot.
