Dussehra is the biggest celebration for all Indians, as it marks the end of Navratri. It is a 9 days festival marking the victory of warrior goddess durga over Mahishasura. Moreover, it also celebrates Lord Rama’s victory over Ravanna. Even though there are many reasons why this occasion is celebrated, its significance never fades. It acts as a reminder that the forces of Dharma (good) will always overpower the forces of Adharma (evil). Vijayadashami, commonly known as the burn of Ravana Dummy, is celebrated to symbolize the win of good over evil. Know more about this celebration and how to celebrate Dussehra in 2022 by reading on.

What Day Will Dussehra Be Celebrated In 2022?

Dussehra and Vijaya Dashami are celebrated at the end of Navratri on the 10th day of Shukla Paksha in Ashvin (Ashwayuja) month. This day varies every year as it is based on the Hindu lunar calendar. Dussehra in 2022 will be on Wednesday, October 5. On the same day, the Bengali Vijay Dashami shall take place. Some Vijaya Dashami rituals include Shami Puja, Seema Avalanghan, and Aparajita Puja.

On the day of Dussehra, people enjoy this well-known Gujarati food combination. According to legend, Lord Rama cherished a treat named Shashkuli, which is today known as Jalebi. He loved this treat so much that he consumed Jalebi to mark his triumph over Ravana. Fafda and jalebi are traditionally served together in Hindu scriptures because it’s thought that eating food made with gram flour (besan) at the end of a fast will bring good fortune.
