Why is Rolex so Popular?

Rolex is known for its luxury and performance watches. Its watches have become symbols of status, success, and good taste. They are also popular with athletes due to their precision and durability. Rolex is the official timekeeper for many high-profile sports teams, including the F1 Formula One racing team, the New York Yankees Major League Baseball team, the British House of Commons Parliament group and others.

The Rolex Watch Company and Its Founder

Hans Wilsdorf was born in 1881 in Switzerland to a wealthy family of jewellers. Wilsdorf began working as an apprentice with his father’s business at age 14 and by age 19 he was running his own jewellery shop. In 1903, Wilsdorf met and married his wife, Ida. They had two children together and when the Wilsdorf's third child was born in 1905, Wilsdorf decided it was time to start a new business. He founded the watch company Rolex in London and rented a workshop in Geneva, Switzerland where he began producing his own costly watches.

Rolex Watches and Its Early Times

From the beginning of its existence, Rolex had a strong focus on precision and quality as well as creativity. Wilsdorf had an idea to pay attention to details made by his workers that could be seen at six o’clock every morning before any of them arrived at their workplaces. He made sure that there was a clean, safe and well-lit place for his workers to work, which was a rarity at the time. This small detail would later become a key element of Rolex's reputation.

Wilsdorf’s business began to flourish, and he soon bought more workshops in Geneva and opened his first retail store.

The company continued to grow more popular around the world as they were viewed as reliable in quality and punctuality, which were associated with reliability. Wilsdorf also started to become more active in politics, working hard to improve the lives of others throughout Europe through different projects he initiated.
