Denmark World Cup squad 2022: Full matches, group, odds and more

Denmark is confident in their chances at this World Cup squad, and they should be, beating France 2-0 last month and completing a home and away double against the Nations League world champions. An unparalleled World Cup qualifying campaign followed, with Danes scoring against decent teams like Austria and Israel, winning their first nine games and conceding just once until the final game. Qatar FIFA World Cup fans can buy France Vs Denmark Tickets from our website.

During that time, the rescheduled Euro 2020 had collapsed and they thrived in the semi-finals, spurred on by the national trauma of Christian Eriksen’s fall and the solidarity this experience only brought will only make Denmark stronger in the game on the way to Qatar.

Kasper Hjulmand’s squad is of high quality: the central defender duo of Barcelona captain Simon Kjaer and Andreas Christensen; fullback Joakin Maehle, who made a big impression at the European Cup; the complementary midfield duo of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Eriksen Behind the striker threat of Sevilla’s Kasper Dolberg and rising star Mikkel Damsgaard.

Young attacking players such as Jesper Lindstrom from Frankfurt and Andreas Skov Olsen from Brugge have gained international experience and can make a big difference. The only question mark is whether the team has enough goals to make strides in the game.

Group A won’t be easy, but Denmark doesn’t expect to lose to Tunisia or Australia, and they won’t be afraid to take on world champions France after their recent win over them. In the round of 16, it will probably be Argentina, a team trying to win Lionel Messi’s World Cup for the last time, but after all, they’ve been through, it’s unlikely that this group of players will be intimidated by anything or anyone against them.

“I think this team has the potential to reach another level,” Hjulmand said recently. “When I think back to the European semi-final against England at Wembley, we knew we could play better than that day.”

Ones to watch

Star – Christian Eriksen: The Manchester United midfielder will make his first major return to the podium at Euro 2020 after falling onto the pitch in an incident that shocked the football world. FIFA World Cup 2022 fans can buy Australia Vs Denmark Tickets from our website.

Eriksen now plays with the aid of a cardioverter defibrillator and has rebuilt his career, first at Brentford and now at Old Trafford where he quickly became Erik ten Hag’s mainstay of the midfield. The 30-year-old has played 117 games for his country, scoring 39 goals and his vision, creativity and shooting rate were crucial to Denmark’s success at the World Cup.

Breakthrough talent – Jesper Lindstrom: The attacking midfielder found success with his youth club Brondby, helping them to the Danish title in 2020-21 before heading south of the border. On his way to Eintracht in Frankfurt, where he continued to impress.

Lindstrom, a talented dribbler and sharp passer, was named the 2021-22 Bundesliga Rookie of the Year and started in May’s Europa League final that Frankfurt won. He missed the Danish squad for Euro 2020, but will definitely play in Qatar.

Prediction

Denmark becomes the second favourite in Group A, but they are not intimidated by defending champions France, who were defeated twice by the Danes in the most recent Nations League. The Danes have talent on the pitch and few other countries can match that. They can certainly grow out of the group, but it may take some luck of a draw to move on after the round 16 defeat in the quarterfinals.

Christian Eriksen returns to action with Denmark at FIFA World Cup in Qatar

When Christian Eriksen returned to training after a cardiac arrest at the European Championships last year, he had a big goal in mind.

“I think my first conversation with the doctor… was about my goal to play in the World Cup if everything went well,” Eriksen told FIFA’s website in a recent interview. “That was the dream then.”

Not many would have thought the dream was a reality when they saw Eriksen languidly surrounded by medical staff and teammates on the pitch at Copenhagen’s Parken Stadium.

But Eriksen will once again be a key part of the Danish team in Qatar, less than 18 months after medics used a defibrillator to restart his heart when a terrified country – and much of the football world – were all watching him.

This will be the next step in Eriksen’s return to elite football, first at Brentford and then at Manchester United – demonstrating that he remains one of the best playmakers in the world. He brought the national team back in March, scoring two minutes after coming off the bench in a 4-2 loss to the Netherlands. He also had a 25-yard field goal in the Nations League game against Croatia in September.

“I feel very comfortable,” Eriksen told the Danish media last month during the international match. “There’s really nothing standing in my way.”

Teams to watch

While Eriksen is Denmark’s best player, he is far from the only reason to focus on the only Scandinavian team at the World Cup. His ordeal at Euro 2020 only seemed to make Denmark stronger as a team, as his teammates gathered into a closer group after the game.

Denmark reached the semi-finals in the competition before losing to England and then completed a near-perfect World Cup qualifier – winning the first nine matches, securing a place in Qatar and losing the 10th and final match.

“I think this team has the potential to reach another level,” said Danish coach Kasper Hjulmand.
“For example, when I think back to the European semi-final against England at Wembley, we knew we could play better than that day.”

To underline the statement, Denmark defeated defending World Cup champions France 2-0 in their final Nations League game in September.

Eriksen said after the win over France: “If we can play at this level again, we have a good chance of doing well at the World Cup.”

The Danes will face France again in Qatar and Australia and Tunisia in Group D.

Other key players

Denmark conceded just one goal in their first nine World Cup qualifiers, the highlight being a team made up of veteran goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, captain Simon Kjaer and central defender Andreas Christensen.

Tottenham’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has added another focal point in midfield, while 22-year-old winger Mikkel Damsgaard is seen as a star in the making. The only question is where the target is coming from. Defender Joakim Maehle was Denmark’s top scorer with five goals in qualifying, while regular striker Yussuf Poulsen had just one.
