Thing to Know that Non-invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT)

Noninvasive prenatal screening, also known as Non-invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT), is a procedure used to assess the likelihood that a foetus will be born with specific genetic abnormalities. Small DNA fragments that are floating around in a pregnant woman's blood are examined by this test. These fragments are known as cell-free DNA because they are free-floating and not contained within cells, in contrast to most DNA, which is found inside the nucleus of a cell (cfDNA). When cells break down and die, their contents, including DNA, are released into the bloodstream as small fragments with an average size of fewer than 200 DNA base pairs.

Non-invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) is a common prenatal screening test. The results of this screening procedure are usually accurate, but the accuracy of the results depends on the results. Although this method can detect genetic disorders in a pregnant woman, it cannot determine the actual chromosomal disorder. Fortunately, the NIPT does not require any invasive procedures, but it does require a blood sample from the pregnant woman. The results of NIPT screening can help a pregnant woman make informed reproductive decisions. It can also help to identify if invasive tests are necessary. However, this type of screening is still not a diagnostic procedure and is not used in every situation. In some cases, it can even increase the risk of miscarriage.

Pregnancies are screened for the most common foetal chromosome anomalies, such as trisomy 21 (Down syndrome), trisomy 18 (Edwards syndrome), and trisomy 13 (Patau syndrome), using non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT). The DNA is extracted from a maternal blood sample during non-invasive prenatal testing of the mother and foetus, and it is advised for women who are at risk of giving birth to a child who has a chromosomal condition.
