What is the Diffrence Between Titanium Grade 5 VS Grade 2 Sheets

While both Grade 2 and Grade 5 are corrosive resistant, strong, and light, there are some notable differences that could affect the outcome. When selecting a titanium grade, it is critical to consider the size of the titanium pieces, how the metal will be used, and the environment it will be exposed to. Let us now look at the fundamental differences between titanium grades 5 and 2.


Titanium Grade 5:


Ti 6Al-4V0, also known as Titanium Grade 5 Fittings, is the most commonly used titanium grade. It is frequently available in an annealed form and is easily heat-treated to increase strength, making it suitable for a wide range of applications. As a general-purpose alloy, Ti 6Al-4V has a wide range of acceptable properties between -210°C and 400°C. Titanium grade 5 is an alpha-beta (-) alloy (Ti 6Al-4V). As a result, less than 100 mm thick sections can be heat treated to provide medium-high strength. Due to the limited hardenability, sections larger than 25 mm may not fully acquire the required characteristics.


When used with matched or ELI filler wire, Ti 6Al-4V has good hot-forming and welding properties. However, there is very little cold forming. Ti 6Al-4V titanium, also known as Grade 5 titanium, is the most common titanium alloy and is known as the "workhorse" of titanium alloys. It accounts for half of all titanium used in the world. Its many benefits are what make it useful. Heat treatment could improve the toughness of Ti 6Al-4V. It can be used in welded construction at service temperatures as high as 600° F. This alloy is lightweight and has good formability, corrosion resistance, and strength. Ti 6AI-4V is a versatile alloy that can be used in a variety of industries, including chemical processing, aerospace, medical, and marine.


Titanium Grade 2:


Titanium Grade 2 (also known as titanium CP3) is a commercially pure alpha alloy. Although not as strong as Ti 6Al-4V, Titanium Grade 2 Sheet has excellent corrosion resistance against a wide range of aggressive media.

Titanium grade 2 is used in modern bleach plants to make sheets, fasteners, and mixers for chlorine dioxide because it is almost impervious to wet chlorine at temperatures ranging from 10 to 80 degrees Celsius (0.02 mpy or 0.001 mm/y).


Titanium grade 2 is specified for its exceptional corrosion resistance in a variety of conditions, including those containing calcium chloride, cupric chloride, ferric chloride, acetic acid in varying concentrations, high-temperature seawater, most organic media, and others. Temperature, pH level, and flow rate, on the other hand, could significantly change the properties of this material, such as its susceptibility to stress corrosion cracking and crevice corrosion. Titanium grade 2 is typically used instead of titanium grade 5 when water corrosion resistance and/or formability are required (Ti 6Al-4V). Titanium grade 2 and other commercially pure grades are also popular lining materials when corrosion resistance is required on the surface at temperatures up to 200°C in a normal environment.
