Kanchenjunga trek

Kanchenjunga Trek itinerary for 21 days

The Kanchenjunga trek is one of the natural trails in Nepal. Taking you to Kanchenjunga's North and South Base Camps, this trek is the only way to reach the world's third-highest peak's base camp. One of the most rewarding treks in the Nepalese Himalaya is the trek to Kanchenjunga base camp, located in a remote region of Taplejung District. The trek follows Nepal's mountainous border with India, Sikkim, Darjeeling, and Tibet.

Kanchenjunga trekking was first opened to foreigners in 1988. At 8586 meters above sea level, Kanchenjunga Himal is the world's third highest peak. In 1997, a conservation area covering 2,035 km of land was established around Kanchenjunga. Until 1852, Kanchenjunga Trek was regarded as the highest mountain in the world. A British expedition led by Joe Brown and George Band summited Kanchenjunga on May 25, 1849. A 50-day itinerary for the Kanchenjunga summit costs approximately $23,800 per person. We are aware that climbing mountains 8,586 meters above sea level is difficult and costly.

Until recently, the Kanchenjunga base camp could only be reached by camping and organized treks. Today, trekkers are able to stay in tea houses and do homestays. Nevertheless, the accommodations and meals are not as good as they are at Annapurna base camp and Everest trek.

Several villages in this area are home to Sherpa Community residents who have their own traditional cultures and languages. The remainder of the population in this area consists of Rais, Lingus, Tamangs, and Gurungs.

The length of the trek to Kanchenjunga base camp

The Kanchenjunga trek (220 km) takes three weeks between walking with a backpack and requires great fitness. Most of the paths are rocky, and there are a few long hills as well. In the event of rocky terrain, it may be necessary to use short ropes around the base camps. They are designed to assist people over short, rocky sections. The trek does not require climbing skills, however.

Hub for wildlife

Many mountain animals live in Khambachen and Lonak, which are wildlife hotspots in the region. The area is home to groups of Blue sheep, Himalayan Thar, and Himalayan birds such as Danphe, Monal, and Chilime.

Kanchenjunga is home to more than 303 species of migratory and native birds, according to a book published by the Kanchenjunga Area Conservation Council. Worldwide, two species of birds are critically endangered. Additionally, there are several glacial ponds in the area in addition to the 266 lakes.

There are also seven snake species, four lizard species, 15 amphibian species, and 21 fish species mentioned in the book. The region is home to bitter fish. In addition, the area is home to 83 species of insects and 844 species of flowering plants. It is also home to Chauri (Yak), one of the jewels of the Himalayas.

Kanchenjunga Circuit treks take you through terraced fields, picturesque villages, and green forests along a ridgeline of Rhododendron forests, Chauki, and Gupha Pokhari. In the spring, Gupha Pokhari is the best place to see rhododendrons blooming. In general, the trail is relatively easy, and the highest pass is Sinen-La at 4,646 meters. During Sinen-La, there are mostly ascents and descents.

Kanchenjunga trek toilets

On your Kanchenjunga trek, you should not expect to find comfortable toilets (western toilets). There are only a few hotels with western toilets, and most teahouses have pan toilets without toilet paper. It is recommended that you bring your own toilet paper or purchase it from the same tea house.

The temperature

At Kanchenjunga North Base Camp, which is 5065 meters in height, you can expect minus temperatures during your Kanchenjunga trek. For your Kanchenjunga trek, ensure that you have the equipment listed in the blog, such as a sleeping bag for -25 degrees Celsius. It is important to remember that a good sleeping bag makes your trip, while a poor sleeping bag makes your trek.

Nepal wilderness trekking Guide team's guides and porters are very familiar and experienced with the Kanchenjunga trekking trail. The primary goal of our company is to make the trek a lifetime memory for our customers.

Town of Ghunsa

Gunsa is a small village on the way to Kanchenjunga south base camp, and the Kanchenjunga guest house run by Mr Himali Chungdak was wonderful. He and his family were very accommodating to us and we had a wonderful experience at his guest house. There were hot showers and charging facilities, fancy hotels, warm hospitality, a variety of foods, clean bathrooms with modern sanitation, and a pharmacy operated by the YANGJUM sherpa. Before reaching base camp, trekkers usually rest here.
