Describe Image | Retell lecture

The third speaking task is describe image, followed by the Retell lecture. This task involves watching an image for 25 seconds, and then providing your response while speaking for 40 seconds. The Retell lecture consists of an audio recording as well as a screen image. You get four questions about the image and two questions about the lecture in total. A three-part evaluation of both tasks focuses on content, oral fluency, and pronunciation. For the Retell lecture task, you must speak very clearly and precisely, and for the describe image task, you should speak only about what you heard. Getting no points for the content will result if you talk about anything irrelevant, and you should not be relying on your own knowledge about the topic you are addressing.

There is only 12 seconds to prepare for Retell lecture questions, which is a very short period of time. You need to grab your pen and paper to take notes and pay full attention to the lecture. Taking notes on all the key phrases, words, and emphasized words discussed during the audio recording are the key. You only have about ten seconds before the microphone opens and you have to start speaking once you have noted down the keywords. During these forty seconds, you need to explain the keywords you noted earlier in a structured way. If you are having difficulty following the format, you can use the Edutrainex Retell Lecture template. Besides being high scoring and taking into account all the PTE scoring criteria, these templates are also easy to follow and use. In addition to transition words, they also contain introduction, body and conclusion, which makes them highly scoring.

The Describe Image question allows you 25 seconds to examine a graph or image and then 40 seconds to describe the key aspects you observed. It's important to identify the main points of interest in this essay and then discuss the trends you identified, and you can also make some predictions in the conclusion. You can also use our templates for the Describe Image task, but you should try to create some sentences yourself. Since bar graphs have different explanations and pie charts have different explanations, you can get a lot of different kinds of images in the question, such as charts, tables, and process diagrams. In the introduction, you should explain in the sentence what the topic of the graph is. Then, you should describe some key points in the graph, and in the conclusion, you can either summarize or predict the results.

As part of the Describe Image and Retell Lecture tasks, pronunciation is also an essential element, and you should speak clearly to make the PTE algorithm understand you, There is no need to copy foreign accents, just talk as you normally do, and stressing on words is quite important, both sentence stress and word stress. In Retell lecture, word stress is emphasized on syllables within the word, whereas sentence stress is emphasized on words within a sentence. When it comes to oral fluency, you need to be able to speak fluently without hesitation while modulating your voice. Moreover, you should speak at a decent pace so that the PTE algorithm can understand what you are saying.
