Mica Powders for Card Making

Have you considered using mica powders for card making?

Mica is a naturally occurring silicate mineral that is ground to a fine powder and used in cosmetics and creative projects.

Using mica powders for card making will give your cards a vibrant shimmery glow.

Both natural and synthetic mica can be purchased and added to various craft mediums such as paint and texture paste.

The low-cost items include both mica and pigment.

When they are combined, the mica adds sparkle and the pigment changes the colour.

How to use Nuvo Shimmer Powders

Nuvo Shimmer Powders come in small triangular bottles with nozzles, making them easier to handle and shake over projects.

As a result, they're ideal for backgrounds...

Alternatively, sprinkle the dry powder directly onto the watercolour card. Spritz the powder with water and allow it to move around to create a unique background. Using the ink smooshing technique, any excess ink on your craft mat can be mopped up with more card.

Alternatively, spritz the card with water and sprinkle with dry powder. You have a choice.

The less water you use, the more defined the individual colours become.

You can also use shimmer powder to colour texture/glimmer paste and to add background colour to a heat embossed image.

My favourite shimmer powder technique is to emboss with the powders.

Heat emboss your image on watercolour paper, then sprinkle with shimmer powder and water. The colours blend around the embossing, creating a one-of-a-kind colour combination.

This is a great technique to use when you're stuck for ideas because it allows you to just play with the powders and create.
