7 Pros and Cons of All-on-X Dental Implants

When one loses a tooth, it impacts not just the food habits and intake but also the confidence of a person. Degeneration due to age, periodontitis or gum disease, tooth infection and cavities, diseases, poor nutrition, accidents or injuries, can all lead to loss of tooth or teeth. While some people may settle for dentures, most people now seek permanent solutions as dental procedures are far more advanced and safe today.

All-on-X dental implants

Combine the use of four implants with prosthetics which can replace a full arch. Today, using this procedure, people can get a full set of teeth which is a much better option than the temporary dentures.

What are all-on-x dental implants?

This procedure is conducted via computer guided surgery. Our expert implantologists at Morgan Hill Dentistry combine different technologies which are many times more advanced than the conventional ones to provide a permanent replacement for the lost teeth.

  • The appropriate position for drilling the implants is decided after a thorough investigation.
  • A denture bridge is placed and this bridge is anchored by four implants. These implants are inserted in the jawbone at the same time. These are a type of implant supported dentures. Usual placement includes two implants in the front vertically and two in the back of the mouth at an angle.
  • While the normal dental implants are used to replace one tooth, this all-on-x dental implants can replace the entire dental arch.
  • Here, rather than the artificial tooth, you will find a sharp tip. As there are usually four implants in the latest technique, there are four corresponding tips. These are akin to connecting points between the jaw and artificial teeth. This connection mimics the natural feeling and provides a sturdy replacement for the teeth.
  • Usually, one is provided a temporary denture after placing the implants. This allows the patient to carry on with regular activities like eating while the healing takes place. Bone grows around the implants in a few months.
  • It is after this healing phase that the full arch denture is permanently fixed to the implants.
  • Many times, the fixed dentures may be placed immediately.  Read more
