Choosing between PVC and Polyolefin shrink wrap film

In order to ensure proper shipping and preservation of your goods, it's crucial to choose the appropriate shrink film for the appropriate applications.

Shrink wrap is another name for the polymer plastic film used to make shrink film. It shrinks tightly over whatever it is covering when heat is applied. A handheld heat gun or a conveyor belt with a heat tunnel can be used to apply heat to the product and film, respectively. To achieve high-quality shrink packaging for your products, it's critical to select the appropriate shrink film, shrink seal machine, heat tunnel, or combination of these.

There are several applications for PVC Shrink film.

PVC is an abbreviation for polyvinyl chloride. The third most abundant plastic in the world is PVC. Prior to the release of polyolefin (POF) shrink wrap a few years ago, PVC shrink wrap was the most widely used shrink film. PVC shrink wrap is frequently used to package non-edible items like small canisters, software, CD and DVD packaging, and boxes.

PVC shrink film functions flawlessly with automated machinery as well. The most frequent downsides of PVC shrink wrap are its lack of sealing power, storage problems, and sealing by goods. The plasticizer in PVC shrink wrap hardens in cold weather and softens in heat, reducing both the seal's and the plastic's strength. PVC shrink wrap also causes small amounts of carbon buildup in the sealer and hydrogen chloride gas leaks into the atmosphere. When sealing PVC shrink wrap, adequate ventilation is necessary.

Shrinkable Polyolefin Film

Many people now favour polyolefin shrink film for packing goods, both edible and non-food.

Many people prefer polyolefin shrink wrap for a variety of reasons, such as less odour when sealing, a stronger seal, and more flexible storage. Because there is no chlorine in polyolefin shrink film, it does not emit hydrogen chloride gas. Since polyolefin shrink wrap doesn't contain any plasticizers, it won't be affected by changes in storage temperature.

Almost every type of application, including toys, athletic goods, printed wrap, meals, stationary, and cards, uses polyolefin shrink film. Polyolefin shrink wrap's main downsides are cost and machine compatibility. Typically, polyolefin costs more than PVC shrink wrap. PVC is favoured by many packagers for this reason. There are varieties of polyolefin shrink wrap that are more machine-compatible, but for some packagers, polyolefin machine compatibility can be a problem.
