What Are the Different Types of Denture Adhesives?

Before explaining the different types of denture adhesives used today, allow me to explain a little about the need for adhesives. Denture adhesives are commonly used to hold dentures in proper position. In the absence of adhesives, the prosthesis falls out of the mouth. Well, that's something unimaginable if you ask me. Imagine your dentures falling out of your mouth when you're talking to someone. If you are interested in dentures and planning to wear one soon, this short article could be of great help.

Denture adhesives used today can be classified mainly into three categories - the conventional paste-type adhesives, the powder-type adhesives and the wafer-type adhesives. It is difficult to choose the best among these as each of them has its own pros and cons. Get more here about this or electronics assembly adhesives. Depending on your needs, you need to choose one of them. If you find that a certain niche of denture adhesive causes irritation, then feel free to jump on ships – that goes without saying!

Today, dentists are known to use paste-type denture adhesives. They are categorized or they are in turn classified according to the strength imparted to the denture. Manufacturers have started adding flavors to these glues so that the wearer can experience “sweetness” at all times. The niche is widespread, occasionally better and advanced versions of the same product are released. These must be manually applied to the prosthesis by the wearer - the duration (of the adhesiveness of the paste) depends on the type and quality of the adhesive.

If you try to remove the prosthesis, residues of paste will remain in the mouth. This in turn has a negative effect. This residual paste combines with the food particles and causes ulcers and infections in the jaw area. Pharmaceutical companies are working around the clock to develop an adhesive paste that leaves no residue in the mouth. Next in line is the powdered glue. The powder absorbs the moisture present in the mouth and increases the adhesiveness many times over. The powder needs to be taken in reasonable amount – otherwise you will have a hard time getting it out of your mouth.

Waffle-type denture adhesives are an expensive option. You must avoid going for the same thing unless you have plenty of boxes stacked with cash in the attic. The paradigm is simple. Depending on the length of the denture, you will need to cut the wafer and press it against it (the denture). It's easy and hassle free if you ask me. However, the high costs involved are a major turn-off for the niche. Choosing a quality adhesive has its own benefits.
