How To Use Cricut Infusible Ink [Explained]

Infusible ink is a special product from the Cricut company which is used for making bright, colorful designs with smooth finishing of different types of base materials. Not like the HTV or iron on vinyl, the Infusible ink is applied/ pressed on the top of the base material using the heat-activated adhesive, and this makes the Infusible ink fuse with the base materials. The Infusible ink becomes one with the blank, which means your design will not crack, wrinkle, peel or flake any time soon. It is much similar to sublimation printing but simpler. In this blog, we will discuss the step-by-step process of how to use Cricut Infusible ink. So let us start with the blog by discussing things you need to have before you start using an Infusible Ink. Visit at- Cricut.com/setup

Materials/ Machines You Need To Start Using Infusible Ink

For creating any craft with the Infusible Ink, you may require any of the following materials/ machines:

  • Cricut Maker/ Explore/ Joy Machine – All the Cricut machines have the capability to cut Infusible Ink sheets. The only thing you have to keep in mind before using the Cricut joy machine is that it has got a smaller cut size, so Joy cannot be used for large designs.
  • Cricut Infusible Ink Transfer sheets – The infusible sheets come in a standard size of 12 by 12, which are widely available in different colors and patterns.
  • Butcher Paper – You get 2 sheets of Butcher paper in a pack of infusible Ink transfer sheets.
  • Compatible Blank times (Shirts or Mugs) – Cricut brand Blanks are specially designed materials to be used with the Infusible Ink. There are third-party sublimation banks also available so that you can use them too.
  • Cricut EasyPress machine or heat press – You need a source of heat to transfer Infusible ink into your project. You can also use the regular iron, but it is not recommended to use it since they do not get hot enough, and also, they aren’t hot enough for heat pressing the whole design. So, an EasyPress machine is definitely worth using and is a value-for-money product.
  • Mug Press –  Mug Press helps you in using Infusible Ink with special mug blanks.
  • Cricut EasyPress Mat – A flat smooth pressing mat is highly recommended for your infusible Ink projects. The EasyPress mat helps you complete the contact between the transfer sheet and the project surface to achieve better final results.
  • Standard Gripping Mat – It is the green mat under which materials are inserted, and then it is inserted inside the Cricut machine for the cutting process.
  • White cardstock – White cardstock is used inside your cardstock under your project, which is used for the protection and equal heat distribution of any accidental ink transfer.
  • Paper trimmer
  • Lint roller

Things To Keep In Mind Before Working With Infusible Ink

Following are some of the things you should keep in mind before working with Infusible Ink:

  • Never forget to mirror your craft/ design.
  • Make sure you place your Infusible ink material’s color side facing up and shiny side down.
  • When you remove the Infusible transfer sheet for transferring from the cutting mat, it is recommended to slightly roll and bend the material to crack the cut lines. This technique makes your removal of the transfer sheet process a lot easier.
  • Make sure you give time to lint roll and preheat your blank. These two steps will make your heat-transferring process a lot easier.
  • You should take time for your design to cool down after the heat-transferring process to avoid any burns on your skin.
