Android Tablets - What Are They and What Products Are the Best Out There?

People are increasingly interested in tablet PCs with the release of the iPad. A tablet PC is distinct from a laptop since it lacks a foldable screen but otherwise performs similarly to a notebook computer. Simply put, it's a tablet computer with a touch screen that can be used for web surfing, media playback, gaming, note-taking, and reading e-books, among other things. Tablet PCs' most notable feature is their extreme portability. Most tablet computers are small enough to fit in a coat pocket or a woman's handbag, whereas laptops require special bags.

However, the iPad and other popular magch tablet like the Samsung Galaxy can get pretty pricey. A tablet PC may seem appealing, but for the majority of people, it is just out of reach due to the high price tag (about $400 for the most recent iPad). However, even those on a tighter budget can now afford to have a tablet computer of their thanks to the availability of cheaper Android tablets.

An Android tablet can save you a lot of money compared to an iPad or a Galaxy Tab. You'll need some familiarity with the Android platform to grasp why they're less expensive. The Android operating system is what powers every Android tablet. This OS can be downloaded and used without cost by anyone. That is to say, any company can build a tablet PC and then use Google's robust Android OS as the tablet's software. Android 2.2, or Froyo, is the most recent update to Google's mobile operating system.

Many companies have released Android tablets that are significantly less expensive than the iPad because of the open-source nature of the Android operating system. Apple's iPad is more expensive than competing models because the company pioneered the tablet PC market. Apple diehards will still shell out $400 for an iPad, even though inexpensive Android tablets offer the same or greater value.

You can get an Android tablet for a lot less than you would pay for an iPad or a Samsung Galaxy Tab. One of the best things about Android tablets is that many of them will employ the same hardware that is found in tablets made by more reputable companies, like Samsung. The Samsung Galaxy Tab, for instance, has a processor based on the Cortex A-8 or A-9 architecture. Since the Cortex A-8 and A-9 are based on open-source technology, other companies besides Samsung can legally use them in their tablet PCs. Android tablets from a variety of vendors have taken advantage of the Cortex A-9 technology by including it in their devices.

The high retail price of popular tablets like the iPad and the Samsung Galaxy is a direct result of the high marketing expense that must be recouped. Therefore, if you are in the market for a Tablet PC, you would do well to consider acquiring an Android tablet, which will save you a tonne of money while providing the same robust performance as the market leaders.
