Pathiramanal would be only reached by boat and is bordered by the Vembanad Lake, which spans from Alappuzha to Kochi, and the Kayamkulam Lake. The Palace was built by the Portuguese in 1557 and given to Raja Veera Kerala Varma of Kochi (Cochin). The Dutch restored the palace in 1663. This palace also has a temple in the center courtyard that houses the goddess of Palayannur Bhagwati. Smaller temples to Lord Krishna and Lord Shiva may be seen on either side of the courtyard. The central hall on the palace’s upper floor was once utilized for the crowning ceremony of Rajas of Kochi.

The paintings on the walls of the royal chambers are the main attractions of this Mattancherry Palace. These paintings portray episodes from Hindu mythical epics such as the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and Puranas. This palace also has a gallery with exhibits of royal relics including attires, turbans, and weaponry belonging to Rajas of Kochi.
