Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) Occurs When Thrombi Form In A Deep Vein Caused By Blood Clots

A blood clot that begins in a vein is called a Venous Thromboembolism (VTE). After heart attack and stroke, it is the third most common vascular diagnosis, affecting between 300,000 and 600,000 Americans annually. The two are as follows: A clot in a deep vein, typically in the leg but occasionally in the arm or other veins, is known as a deep vein thrombosis (DVT). A DVT clot that escapes from the vein wall and gets to the lungs and partially or completely obstructs the blood supply is known as a Pulmonary Embolism (PE). Blood clots in the thigh are more prone than those in the lower leg or other places of the body to separate and go to the lungs.

When something slows down or alters the blood flow, DVTs develop in the legs. DVT and PE are most frequently brought on by surgery, malignancy, immobility, and hospitalisation. Pregnancy and the usage of hormones like oestrogen for menopause symptoms or oral contraceptives are crucial in women. Those who are older, obese or overweight, or who have diseases like cancer or autoimmune disorders like lupus are more susceptible to clot.

Because too many blood cells are produced by bone marrow, it is also more frequent in individuals whose blood is thicker than normal. Furthermore significant are the genetic roots of increased blood coagulation. These happen when the genetic coding of certain proteins that are necessary for clotting or proteins that function to naturally dissolve blood clots in the body are altered. Although they can happen at any age, Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) is most prevalent in persons 60 and older.
