Spiritual Tour Of Kedarnath And Badrinath — Costs And Benefits

Introduction

When it comes to spirituality and Hinduism, few places hold as much significance as Kedarnath Badrinath dham , nestled in the alpine heights of the Garhwal Himalayan range. In Hinduism, these two temples are believed to be the dwelling places of the gods, Kedarnath being the abode of Lord Shiva, and Badrinath of Lord Vishnu. Pilgrims from all over the country (and the world) flock to these shrines, often in the form of pilgrimages, or ‘yatras’, seeking not only the blessings of the gods, but a spiritual experience like none other.

For many seeking a spiritual journey, the costs of engaging a tour package could be off-putting, especially if the starting point of the journey is Delhi. As such, in this blog post we’ll be breaking down the whole experience of embarking upon a spiritual journey to Kedarnath and Badrinath, taking into consideration costs and benefits as well. So, let’s get started!

Transportation to Kedarnath and Badrinath

When it comes to transportation, Delhiites have two general options — rail and road. For those planning to embark on the spiritual journey from Delhi, Uttarakhand Mussoorie Express is an ideal train to choose, costing ₹710 (USD 10) for a one-way ticket. This is the most economical way to reach one’s destination, and the train is known to depart from Delhi at 3:45 AM on Sunday mornings.

Alternatively, those who aren’t keen on taking the train can opt to travel by road — this would cost approximately ₹3000 (USD 44) per person. Taking a shared taxi or a bus to Rishikesh or Haridwar would be the ideal option here, from which personal transportation can be hired to reach the final destination.

There is no direct Delhi to Kedarnath train. The best way to go to Kedarnath is to take a flight or train to Haridwar, and then take a bus or taxi to Kedarnath. Most buses to Kedarnath are night buses and leave at different points in Haridwar. You can book your ticket in advance from any railway station in Delhi or from the airport nearby.

Accommodation

Since this is a pilgrimage and not a sightseeing excursion, accommodating oneself for the night doesn’t matter much. One could either choose to stay at one of the many ashrams found in the region (some of which are free), or make reservations at one of the many budget-friendly guest houses near Kedarnath or Badrinath. On average, it comes to about ₹700 (USD 10) per night per person.
