Malaysia’s Convenience Food Paradise You Can't Miss

FamilyMart's tagline, "Family is your home", reflects its similarity to a home where you can easily find all the essentials. As a joint venture between Taiwan and Japan, FamilyMart has rapidly expanded and now boasts thousands of branches worldwide.

Fortunately, this well-known convenience store chain has established a strong presence in Malaysia, with plans to open even more stores in the coming months due to its overwhelming popularity. Therefore, I have compiled a list of must-try food items that you can find at FamilyMart.

1. Oden

To kick off our list of must-try food items at FamilyMart, we highly recommend their classic dish - Oden. This savory skewered dish is available in two flavors - Dashi (original) and Tom Yam broth - and is sure to satisfy your cravings and appetite. For the best experience, it's recommended to eat it while it's still hot and fresh from the store. Don't forget to pair it with some springy udon noodles too.

2. Onigiri (Japanese Rice Ball)

When you're in a rush and unable to have breakfast at home before work or school, FamilyMart has got you covered. You can easily grab one or two pieces of Onigiri with various flavors to choose from. Apart from the classic favorites like Tuna Mayo, Ebiko, and Salmon, there are also many other unique flavors available that you won't find anywhere else. What's even more exciting is that limited edition Onigiris are introduced every few months to keep things interesting.

3. Bento Box

For those in search of a filling lunch or dinner option at FamilyMart, look no further than their Bento Box. These ready-to-go meals come in various rice and noodle options and are a great choice when you're short on time. Plus, if you don't have a microwave at home, you can always ask the staff to heat it up for you.

4. Japanese Ice-Cream Sandwiches

If you're looking to beat the heat in Malaysia, FamilyMart's Japanese Ice-Cream Sandwiches are a great choice. These chilly treats will satisfy your sweet tooth and refresh you on a hot and humid day. With flavors like Vanilla, Matcha, and Chocolate, there's always something in the freezer that will catch your attention.

5. Soft Serve Ice-Cream

No trip to FamilyMart would be complete without trying their famous soft serve ice-cream. It's no surprise that almost every foodie who enters FamilyMart walks out with a cone of their delicious green tea or vanilla ice-cream. Who can resist this refreshing and tempting treat on a hot day?

6. Dessert Sandwiches

Sandwiches are a staple in every convenience store, and FamilyMart is no exception. Indulge yourself in a Sando, a Japanese sweet dessert sandwich filled with whipped cream, fresh fruits, and a variety of toppings. It's best eaten cold, before the whipped cream has a chance to melt away.

7. Savory Sandwiches

In addition to the Dessert Sandwiches, FamilyMart also offers a variety of savory sandwiches. These sandwiches are filled with generous portions of Egg Mayo, Chicken Slices, Meatballs, Tuna Mayo, and other savory ingredients. Plus, keep an eye out for seasonal sandwiches like the Ayam Percik Sandwich, which is only available during certain festive periods.

8. Swiss Roll Slice

If you're looking for a sweet treat but don't want to overindulge, FamilyMart's Swiss Roll Slice is the perfect option. These slices feature a moist sponge cake wrapped around a generous amount of flavored cream. Available in Matcha and Chocolate flavors, they're definitely worth a try.

9. Hanjuku Cheese

If you're a fan of cheesecake, be sure to try FamilyMart's Hanjuku Cheese. This half-baked Japanese-style cheesecake has a creamy cheese center and comes in bite-size portions, perfect for those who don't want to indulge in a whole slice of cake. Choose from three flavors: original, matcha, and chocolate, but be quick as they often sell out quickly due to high demand.

10. Mini Desserts

For those with a sweet tooth, FamilyMart's mini desserts are a must-try. While they may be small in size, these single-serving desserts are packed with delicious flavors. Take your pick from a variety of delicious options, including Swiss Delights, Matcha Italian Milk, Chocolate Mousse, Strawberry Shortcake, Matcha Pudding, and Parfait.

11. Freshly Baked Bread

Treat yourself to the delectable bread selection at FamilyMart, where you can indulge in the soft and savory goodness of their freshly baked goods. From sweet bread loaves to savory buns, there's something for every appetite. You'll also find a variety of traditional Japanese breads like Melon Pan and Puchi Mochi Pun.

12. Steaming Hot Dim Sum

At FamilyMart, you'll find the Dim Sum steamer located right next to the hot snack bar. Here, you can grab a quick bite of steaming hot dim sum, including filled buns, fish balls, cheong fun, and assorted siu mais. However, be aware that these dim sum items are extremely popular among foodies and the steamers may occasionally be empty as staff work to replenish them.

13. Hot Snacks

If you head over to the counter at the hot bar section, you'll find a wide range of hot snacks displayed on the racks. These snacks include sausages, cuttlefish tofu, and curry puffs, and even freshly prepared fried chicken that is made to order.

Family Mart currently has stores in many countries. Malaysia is no exception. Therefore, after many tourists visit Malaysia, it is an essential place to visit and shop. Of course, if you are facing the traffic problem of how to get there, then I strongly recommend you to take a taxi to JB, such as SGMYTRIPS.
