Medipathway - Study Abroad Programs in Georgia

Studying abroad can be one of your education's most transformative & informative experiences. It fosters integrity, cultural curiosity, flexibility & adaptability.

In the summer of 2023, CGSE will offer two study-abroad programs in Georgia. While Dickinson's program in Russia has been suspended due to the conflict in Ukraine, the SRAS in Tbilisi is still available.

Harvard Summer Program in Tbilisi

With a pre-departure introduction to the Georgian language and alphabet, this nine-week program offers hands-on experience living in Tbilisi. It includes intermediate Russian language courses meeting daily along with lectures and excursions led by regional experts on Georgian history, culture, literature, film, and politics. You will explore Russia-Georgia relations within the context of the larger Caspian region and gain a deeper understanding of Georgia's historical, economic, and political development since independence.

Ana has worked on large-scale urban and city planning projects in Georgia with Ruderal and previously at Geographic, a multidisciplinary firm working on the Tbilisi Waterfront Park and Kvareli Lake Resort. She teaches a course on Georgia's unique architecture at CGTC and works with students on design projects related to the country's rich cultural heritage.

Dickinson Summer Program in Tbilisi

The Dickinson Summer Program in Tbilisi allows students to immerse themselves in the culture and history of Georgia. It also includes an entire course in intermediate Russian language meetings every weekday and additional excursions and lectures led by regional experts. This interdisciplinary study will examine the context of US-Georgia and Russia-Georgia relations and Georgian literature, film, and history. Students can earn up to eight credit hours for the experience.

CGSE's Global Initiatives Coordinator, Candice Mitchell, will travel to Tbilisi in March to observe the current SRAS program and meet with scholars and locals who will participate in the Dickinson summer courses. She'll help students plan their trip, including lodging and meals during excursions. The trip will focus on the capital city of Tbilisi and also provide travel to other regions in Georgia. Interested students should contact their high school initiatives coordinator and the CGSE department for more information.

RUSS S-BG

Students advance their Russian-language skills through intensive language study while exploring Georgia's rich culture and historical relations with Russia. The program includes a three-week course in Yale's New Haven campus and an intensive "at home and abroad" experience in Tbilisi, Georgia. Coursework combines language instruction that tracks the content of Harvard's Russian B-level courses with a culture course examining Georgia, Russia, and the Caucasus in literature, cinema, and visual arts.

While in Tbilisi, students stay at a hotel near the city's museums and cultural center. In Batumi, they stay with carefully selected Russophone host families who provide breakfast and dinner daily. The program fee covers accommodations, group excursions, cultural activities, a welcome dinner, and class materials. Not included are airfare, meals, personal travel expenses, costs for a passport, and UGA tuition and fees (HOPE or Zell Miller scholarships may apply). Contact the Office of Global Engagement for more information on these additional costs.

SRAS RSL

Studying abroad (international) or away (domestic) is one of the most transformative experiences you can have. It challenges students to broaden their perspectives, expand their comfort zones and develop a worldview that will set them apart from their peers.

Valdosta State University offers various educational opportunities worldwide, including summer programs led by VSU faculty members and exchange opportunities through our partnership with ISEP, the International Student Exchange Program. Learn more about these programs via the USG Study Abroad Directory.

CGTC's Ireland dual enrollment study abroad trip is returning in June 2023. Students who wish to participate in this trip should contact their High School Initiatives Coordinator regarding prerequisites and complete the CGTC Global Initiatives Study Abroad Interest Form. PittGEO monitors CDC and State Department travel warnings, advisories, and host country conditions to assess the impact on our students and academic programs. We take safety very seriously.
