Red flags to look for when choosing a finance consultant

Not all finance consultants are as genuine as those at DTA Finance. A financial advisor or consultant should be chosen carefully. They can be a very important part of the financial support system. However, financial advice is not free. You will pay your consultant and that is why you need to get the most out of their services. Here are some of the top red flags to look for when choosing a consultant.

They aren’t a fiduciary

You need someone who is obligated to act in your best interest. They should put your needs first. If you do not find someone like that, it is a red flag and you need to run. Not all finance consultants are fiduciaries. They don’t all have to put the needs of their clients first, including transparency regarding potential conflicts of interest and full disclosure.

Look for a registered public finance consultant. Beware of dually registered consultants. Whilst they are registered, they are also licensed through the financial industry regulatory authority.

It is not clear how they make money

If the advisor doesn’t have a clear explanation for how they make their money, it is a red flag. This is a benefit of having a consultant who is a fiduciary because they disclose how they make their money – they make their money from fees.

However, it is important to know that fees vary so do not expect all consultants to charge the same.

They are trying too hard to sell you something

A good financial advisor such as DTA Finance will be transparent about their services. If the consultant tries to make you invest in something with the name of their company on it, it is a huge red flag. You should look for an independent consultant who does not get paid more to sell a different brand.
