Manual Polarimeter

The Manual Polarimeter is a versatile instrument used in the field of chemistry to measure the optical rotation of a substance. It is designed to analyze the rotation of plane-polarized light as it passes through a sample, providing valuable information about its molecular structure and purity. This polarimeter operates on the principle of optical rotation, which occurs when a chiral molecule interacts with polarized light, causing it to rotate either to the left (levorotatory) or to the right (dextrorotatory).

The Manual Polarimeter consists of a light source, a polarizer, a sample tube, an analyzer, and a graduated scale. The light source emits a beam of polarized light, which passes through the polarizer and enters the sample tube containing the substance being analyzed. As the light traverses through the sample, its plane of polarization rotates due to the molecular interactions. The analyzer, placed after the sample tube, detects the rotated plane of polarization and allows the user to measure the angle of rotation using the graduated scale. By comparing the observed rotation angle with known standards, researchers can determine the concentration, enantiomeric purity, or specific optical rotation of a compound, making the Manual Polarimeter an indispensable tool in various chemical applications, including pharmaceutical research, food analysis, and quality control.
