Claro’s SIL houses offer individuals dedicated support within Specialist Disability Accommodation 24/7 including overnight sleepovers. Individuals receive active assistance and/or supervision with daily tasks such as home maintenance, cooking, shopping and recreational activities.

SIL funding is included in your NDIS plan under Core Supports – Assistance with Daily Life. You will have a Support Coordinator as part of your plan to help you navigate the process.

Residential Homes

Under the supported independent living Victoria (SIL) plan of NDIS, people can access funding to live in shared accommodation. This may be in the form of a single home that is exclusively for you, or it may be a group of homes where two to seven people share the same home but each have their own private bedroom.

SIL housing providers offer residential homes in many locations throughout Victoria.

Some provide 24 hour care and assistance with daily tasks and personal needs. Some of them also offer recreation and community activities for residents. Others have accessible gardens and outdoor spaces for residents to enjoy.

When looking at a SIL home, check for:

Home Share Providers

Home sharing enables individuals to live in an environment that addresses their needs and preferences. They may live with a roommate, couple or in their own suite within a family home. This arrangement also increases opportunities to establish natural relationships and connections within their community.

CLBC facilitators can assist in determining an individual’s need for home share. They can then connect them with service providers that offer this option. Home share providers undergo a rigorous assessment process to ensure they are committed to fostering a genuine home environment.

If you are interested in a residential housing option, Consumer Affairs Victoria has a number of resources on choosing, living and leaving retirement villages and residential parks. They also offer a PDF publication, Movable dwellings: a guide for residents, owners and managers. You can contact them online or on 1300 55 81 81 during business hours.

Individual Apartments

Individual apartments offer more privacy and freedom than a single-family home or condo but are less costly than buying a house or renting a townhome. They are a good option for young people who move often for work, those who prefer lowmaintenance living and baby boomers looking to downsize to a smaller place without giving up the lifestyle they enjoy. Apartments are also a good choice for seniors who want to stay in an urban area.

The NDIS SIL plan allows participants to rent their own apartment and access support services from two to four hours a week. The level of support depends on the individual's needs: standard need - provides 24/7 active assistance with daily tasks and overnight sleepovers; complex need - provides highly frequent active management of challenging behaviours and intensive positive behavior supports.

Supported Residential Services

If you’re looking to set up a supported residential service, you need to register with the Agency before you start. The registration will specify how many beds you’re authorised to provide and how many people you’re able to accommodate.

Sil supported independent living is an NDIS funding model designed to help individuals with disabilities build independence. This is achieved by providing individuals with daily assistance and support to carry out tasks such as shopping, cooking and attending medical appointments.

ILHS has fourteen homes in community neighborhoods across Greater Victoria that offer twenty-four hour support to individuals who live there. These homes are staffed by experienced professionals who work with each individual to develop an ongoing, person-centered plan of supports. The services provided by these residences are covered under Core Supports – Assistance with Daily Life in the NDIS.
