Why You Should Send Your Child To A Math Summer Camp

It is the wish of every parent to see their children excel and summer camps at Harvard provide students with more than just math skills. When students attend a math summer camp, they enjoy more benefits than just math skills. While camps spark a passion for mathematics in students, students can also make friends, and learn other life skills such as cooking, courtesy and so on.

Summer vacations last a very long time and a lot of students spend most of their time sitting in front of a TV screen or a phone. This creates a great opportunity for their young brain to drain the things they had learned in school during the school year.

When students learn math, they enhance their analytical, problem solving and research skills. Learners who remain behind during the summer have a difficult time catching up once they start their school year. Summer camps are among the best ways to prevent this from happening. A perfect summer program can introduce learners to like-minded friends and teach them life skills as I pointed out in the first paragraph.

Having a lot of fun at summer camps

When students learn math outside the classroom, they enjoy a lot of opportunities for making mathematics fun. Science games and engineering activities teach students that mathematics applies to a lot of real-world topics. When students attend math summer camps, they do a lot of activities such as observing math patterns, solving puzzles, and forming teams to do group projects.

The wide range of games and activities gives children an introduction to STEM careers. Instead of having your students sit at a desk for hours, students can participate in events that encourage them to do physical activities. Getting students on the move while learning mathematical concepts helps them make great connections to the topic.

Students learn responsibilities

It is the wish of every parent to have responsible children. Camping offers children an opportunity of being responsible. Not only are the children learning mathematics, but they are also gaining useful life experiences. During camping time, students decide who cooks, who makes the bed, and so on. They also learn to clean up after themselves. The good thing is that all those habits are not left at the camp. They bring them back home after the summer camp.

Camps also help students learn resilience. Students are thrown into new situations with strangers and asked questions to do new tasks. They cannot always solve the problems and they have to learn how to cope with the challenges.

Children make friends

As we had mentioned earlier, children make friends during summer camps at Harvard. Learning how to socialize and make friends is an important life skill that students learn at camps. One of the best things these camps provide is that they bring children together who share the same interests. They meet like-minded people and this encourages confidence. When their teachers help them, children learn how to collaborate with others, handle social situations and resolve conflicts. They also learn to work with others and gain leadership skills.
