An off-duty officer shot and killed Tyler Gebhard, 20, on Saturday after Gebhard allegedly forced his way into the man s home.
Police say an off-duty officer shot and killed a black man who broke into the officer s home in Lakeshire, Missouri, reportedly after the two men had had an argument on Facebook about the Black Lives Matter movement.
Tyler Gebhard, 20, who according to his family had a history of mental illness, came to the unnamed officer s home Saturday afternoon, according to St. Louis County police.
Gebhard, who reportedly knew the officer through a church connection, came to the front door first, but the officer s wife recognized him and shut the door.
Police say Gebhard then went around back, smashed a window with a concrete planter and entered the house.
The officer s wife, mother-in-law and two children barricaded themselves in a bedroom and called 911 as the officer confronted Gebhard, police said in a statement.
