Chandigarh receives 'Best UT Award' at India Smart Cities Conclave 2023, with Nitin Yadav and distinguished guests in attendance

Chandigarh has achieved a remarkable feat by winning the "Best UT Award" for the second consecutive year at the India Smart Cities Award Contest (ISAC) 2022. This prestigious honor was bestowed upon the city at the India Smart Cities Conclave 2023 in Indore, where it was presented by President Droupadi Murmu.


Besides the Best UT Award, Chandigarh was also felicitated for the best governance project, best mobility project and the third best sanitation project for revolutionising waste management in the city. Mayor Anup Gupta, Chandigarh home secretary Nitin Yadav and Chandigarh Smart City Limited CEO Anindita Mitra received the awards for Chandigarh.


The India Smart Cities Award Contest, organized by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, serves as a beacon for acknowledging and rewarding cities, projects, and innovative ideas that are driving sustainable development across 100 Smart cities. These initiatives aim to create cities that are not only sustainable but also inclusive, safe, and healthy for all residents, thus enhancing their overall quality of life.


Mayor Shri Anup Gupta dedicated these awards to the citizens of Chandigarh, recognizing their pivotal role in the city's continued success. Smt Anindita Mitra, the CEO of Chandigarh Smart City Limited, emphasized that these accolades reaffirm their unwavering commitment to transforming Chandigarh into a model smart city.


Shri Nitin Kumar Yadav expressed immense pride and gratitude upon receiving these prestigious awards. He attributed Chandigarh's commendable achievements to a series of groundbreaking initiatives that have been undertaken to create a greener and more sustainable urban environment. Specifically, Yadav highlighted Chandigarh's exceptional efforts in providing safe and convenient non-motorized transport facilities. These efforts align closely with the city's commitment to promoting sustainable transportation and reducing carbon emissions, making Chandigarh a model city in this regard.


At the India Smart Cities Conclave in Indore, Chandigarh Smart City Ltd seized the opportunity to showcase its award-winning projects. The exhibition stall aimed to provide visitors with a tangible representation of the city's impressive bicycling infrastructure and public bicycle-sharing system.


The presence of President Droupadi Murmu at the exhibition stall underscored the significance of Chandigarh's accomplishments in the realm of smart city development. Her visit demonstrated the national recognition of the city's initiatives, which have not only enhanced the quality of life for its residents but also set a benchmark for other cities to strive towards.


Chandigarh's consecutive wins of the "Best UT Award" and recognition in various categories at the India Smart Cities Award Contest 2022 underscore the city's unwavering commitment to sustainable development and urban innovation.
