Marc Jacobs is an American fashion designer. He is the founder of the Marc Jacobs fashion label and the former creative director for Louis Vuitton. Jacobs is known for his grungy and androgynous aesthetic. He has won many awards, including four CFDA Awards for Designer of the Year. Marc Jacobs was born in New York City in 1963. His mother was a homemaker, and his father was an accountant. Jacobs began designing clothes at a young age, and he often made his own clothes. He attended Parsons School of Design in New York City, where he graduated in 1984. After graduating from Parsons, Jacobs worked for several different designers, including Perry Ellis and Stephen Sprouse. In 1984, he launched his own label, Marc Jacobs. Jacobs’s early collections were often controversial. and he is known for his innovative and avant-garde designs.
In 1997, Jacobs was creative director of Louis Vuitton, the French fashion house. Jacobs brought new energy to the brand, and he helped to modernize Louis Vuitton’s image. During his time at Louis Vuitton, Jacobs designed some of the brand’s most iconic bags, including the Speedy and the Alma. Jacobs left Louis Vuitton in 2013 to focus on his own label. He continues to design innovative and cutting-edge fashion. Jacobs is also known for his philanthropic work. He is a co-founder of the Marc Jacobs International Foundation, which supports AIDS prevention and education.
