KFA to convene power strengthening committee this week...assesses Klinsmann Lake Asian Cup

The Korea Football Association (KFA) is taking a look back at the 2023 Asian Cup in Qatar.

The KFA announced on Wednesday, "This morning, Hwang Bo-kwan, head of the technical department, and Michael Mueller, chairman of the National Strength and Conditioning Committee, held a meeting regarding the Asian Cup. We will adjust the schedule of the members of the Power Enhancement Committee to hold an Asian Cup review meeting within this week."

Klinsmann's side had a disappointing showing at the 2023 Asian Cup in Qatar. Expectations were higher than ever as the team featured world-class players such as Son Heung-min, 스포츠토토사이트 Lee Kang-in, Hwang Hee-chan, and Kim Min-jae, but they failed to win the title.

After winning the title, the team failed to show better performance and was eliminated in the semifinals after playing for more than 120 minutes against Saudi Arabia in the round of 16 and Australia in the quarterfinals. Against Jordan, a team that was considered an underdog, they were beaten helplessly, failing to register a single shot on target.

The criticism of coach Jürgen Klinsmann is intense. "There are growing calls for him to take responsibility and resign, as he said he would be judged by the Asian Cup results. KFA President Chung Mong-kyu has also been criticized for appointing Klinsmann.

However, Klinsmann has made it clear that he has no intention of resigning. "I don't consider reaching the quarterfinals a failure," he said in an interview back home. "I don't consider it a failure," he said in an interview upon his return, adding that he will analyze the positives and what needs to be done to prepare for the North and Central American World Cup qualifiers.

The KFA will analyze the performance internally. Commissioner Muller, who watched the tournament from the sidelines, has already spoken to Hwang and plans to convene a strengthening committee soon. However, with Klinsmann reportedly already out of the country, and more than half of the strength and conditioning committee members being current coaches preparing for the 2024 season, it is unclear if the meeting will be smooth.
