Thorough training is a must for personnel handling de-icing operations. They are certified by regulatory agencies like the FAA after demonstrations of procedures, safety compliance and knowledge. Ramps, paved areas and equipment must be appropriately maintained for safe de-icing. Audits and checks ensure adherence to protocols.
