Careprost eye drops are an effective remedy for high pressure in the eyes which is known as glaucoma. It is also a popular treatment for cosmetic purposes as it makes the eyelashes grow thick and long. However, it is best to consult with a qualified ophthalmologist before using this medication. Careprost is also a life-long medication and should not be stopped unless instructed to do so by the doctor.

It is a protaglandin analogue that reduces the fluid accumulation in the eyes that can cause damage to the optic nerve leading to loss of vision. It works by ensuring continuous draining of the fluid from the eye into the bloodstream. It is advised to use it in the prescribed dosage to prevent glaucoma, an eye disease that can cause blindness.

It may take at least 4 weeks to notice the effect of this drug and up to 16 weeks to achieve the desired results. The drug should be used once daily, suitably in the evening. If you wear contact lenses, they should be removed before applying the drops and then left to rest for a minimum of 20 minutes before putting them back in. It is recommended to consult a doctor before using this medication if you are experiencing macular oedema, as it could potentially harm your vision.

All medicines can interact differently for each individual. Therefore, you must inform the doctor if you have any other medications, including vitamins, food supplements or herbal items, especially those that can be used on the skin of the eye or the eyelids (eg, misoprostol and dinoprostone). In addition, you should avoid alcohol as it may affect your blood pressure when combined with this medication.
