Coming Back Up

For most of us, coming back up after taking a hit does not come easily. In fact, it often seems impossible. When you hit rock bottom, it's important to remember yourself at the beginning of the journey—where it all started. Remember what you aimed for and analyze why you started to work for it in the first place.

There will be various instances in our lives that make us feel like this is the end. You will feel that you cannot rise up from your current state and are inflicted with feelings of emptiness. Similarly, there may come a time when you think of yourself as incompetent and start hearing whispers behind your back. Other times, people's questioning eyes may seem to drill a hole in your mind and, eventually, your heart. You will constantly ask yourself: Can I actually do this? When will this heaviness in my heart go away?

When this happens, you won't even want to get out of bed; you'll want to do nothing but curl your knees to your stomach and just lay for hours on end. But somehow, you will persevere and make an effort. To the world, everything is all right; everything is okay. And eventually, there will come a time when someone notices the face behind the mask. This is when you feel the absolute worst and feel as if you're standing on quicksand. The more you try to get out, the more the feelings try to swallow you whole.

Most of us have experienced frustration due to failure. At some point in our lives, we may feel like we have hit a brick wall, and everything around us is falling and crumbling down.

At times, it may feel like you're the only one going through it, but this feeling is not foreign to most people. What a person feels at a particular moment can never be replicated or felt by someone else. This is the time in your life when you will feel so broken that no amount of consolation or conversation can help you if you do not decide for yourself that this is the day when you do something about your current situation. You have to make a conscious and thus a physical effort to climb out of the hole you dug yourself into. Until and unless you understand and decide that you need help, no one in the world can help you.

This is an essential and crucial first step to implement in your life, even though it is easier said than done.

"The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall."

~Nelson Mandela

Nobody can define the feeling for you, and in various cases, people can skip to the good parts and forget to tell you how to deal with extreme failure in life. This is one of the primary reasons you'll feel like you have no idea what to do, who to talk to, and where to go.

Apart from all of this, there will also be times when we are not able to identify that there is something unusual. When we do understand what is going on, we try to bury the feelings but little do we know that it never really goes away until and unless we do something about it.

You have to understand that if there comes a point in your life when you think things cannot get any worse, trust in your heart that they can. Realize and appreciate that you have gone through so much in life. There will be more battles that you either win or, at times, merely survive. Don't give yourself a hard time for that. It is high time that we realize that it is okay not to be okay, but the feeling or situation should not be constant. If it prevails for too long, know that it is becoming a problem. Remember, it is never too late to ask for help.

Here are some things you can do to help you if you think you have reached your absolute rock bottom:

1.      Believe in yourself

2.    Feel your pain and regain control of your life

3.     Be more compassionate to yourself

4.    Be responsible for yourself

5.    Create a recovery plan and seek professional help
